New Board Meeting, and Toxicity on the Board?

Almost 16 months ago we raised the concern that children have access to porn and other harmful content on school computers in the WRDSB.  I honestly thought it would be an easy fix, especially given that Waterloo is Canada’s tech hub.  Instead, it’s been an uphill fight.
.
Why is that?  CTV News Kitchener may have the answer, but first I have some news.
In April we reported that Trustees voted to ask the private sector to bring forward proposals on how to fix the Internet disaster.  Now, I’ve just learned the staff will present their findings at a board meeting on June 27.  The report should be available online on the Friday before the meeting.  The meeting will be June 27 at the WRDSB office at 51 Ardelt Ave., in Kitchener at 7:00 PM.  You should attend!  Better yet, sign up as a delegation and speak.
.
Now back to my original question: Why has the board taken 16 months to fix this?
.
CTV News Kitchener just reported that WRDSB trustees, by their own admission, are “putting personal politics and self-interest ahead of working together for the good of the system.”    .
Trustees themselves have said they often “act childish” and that the “Board of Trustees have proven beyond a doubt that they are unable to fix this toxic working environment.”  One trustee even commented that “politics is more important than the board.”
.
You can read it all here.
.
None of this surprises me.  I’ve seen it first hand.  It’s been well documented on the blog.
.
Apparently, they’re now seeking outside help to mend their relational problems.  I think that the outside may be a good place to start. I said, over a year ago, the schools should look outside to fix their Internet disaster.
